CV Teaching [Media] Life Home

In 2013 I was named the AAAS-AMS Mass Media Fellow. With this, I was given the opportunity to work on the science desk at National Public Radio for 10 weeks. I wrote about my experience for the Notices of the AMS, in ”My Summer at NPR”. I'm very interested in the role of mathematicians in changing the public perception of mathematics. I love to talk, write, and tweet about it. Below is a list of blogs where you can find my writing, past, present, and future.

Places To Find My Work

I co-host the podcast The Other Half with Annie Rorem, my best friend and favorite policy analyst. We explore the other half of math, the fun half that you can use to understand your everyday life, and we do so as women -- the other half of people!

I am currently a co-editor of the AMS Blog on Math Blogs with Evelyn Lamb. We are your premier source of mathematical blog reviews, link roundups, and gossip on all topics mathematical.

In June 2017 I was a guest on As It Happens on CBC Radio One, to talk about a Connecticut deli where math talk is forbidden.

In March 2017 I was a guest on Press Play with Madeleine Brand on KCRW, the NPR station out of Santa Monica, CA, to talk about pi day and our national obsession with pi(e).

In May 2016 I was a guest on Essential Pittsburgh on WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR News Station, to talk about the release of the LMFDB. There is also a whole bunch of other media about the LMFDB.

In 2014 and 2015 I co-edited the Joint Math Meetings Blog, hosted by the AMS. The blog covered daily events at the JMM and highlighted keynote address and special sessions of interest.

Throughout my fellowship at National Public Radio I wrote stories about math and science for the NPR blogs, and contributed to a few on-air radio pieces; here is a link to my work at NPR.

I wrote semi-monthly posts for the AMS Math Digest, highlighting the coverage of mathematicians and their research in the mainstream media.
